Dr Yvette Terblans
LECTURER: Physical sciences
Yvette Terblans lectures Physical Sciences offered by AKAD+. She matriculated from the C&N Hoërskool Meisieskool Oranje (Bloemfontein) and completed her BSc degree with Chemistry as a major subject (UFS). After the completion of her degree she worked as a research assistant in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Microbiology. In 1991, she enrolled for her B.Sc. Honours degree in Chemistry at the University of the Free State, after which she completed her M.Sc. degree in Chemistry in 1993. Yvette then enrolled for the degree Philosophiae Doctor in Organometallic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof S Lotz at the University of Pretoria. Yvette obtained her Ph. D. in 1996. During her time at UP she lectured Chemistry to undergraduate students. In 1997 she joined Sasol and worked at Sasol Technology R&D as a Senior Scientist. Yvette joined the Science Bridge @ UJ programme in 2016 where she has been the Physical Sciences lecturer for the past two years. She joined the Akadplus team as a Physical Sciences lecturer in 2017.
Some of her other accomplishments include:
- Obtaining a B Sc Honours degree in Water Utilization through the University of Pretoria in 2004 and a M Sc in Environmental Management in 2016 through the University of Johannesburg.
- During her career as a Scientist Yvette has published several papers in International Journals one of which was by invitation by The Canadian Journal of Chemistry, to celebrate the 50 year anniversary Prof Howard Alper of the University of Ottowa (Canada) in Chemistry in 2005.
In 2016 and 2017 Dr Terblans, taught the Physical Science at the Matric rewrite programme and had excellent results. Her students improved their previous matric results with an average of 18% per student in 2017 and a remarkable 26% per student in 2018.
Yvette is interested in environmental issues and animal welfare.
She is an avid reader and enjoys historical novels, by the likes of Dan Brown
